Getting Older - It Really Does Suck

I turned 38 on Monday. I am two years shy of 40. If you would've have asked me on Friday if I was feeling any older I would have said "no".

But, if you would've asked me Saturday at 8:46 AM after I blew out my knee during a work out......well........dammit.

Looking forward to my first MRI and surgery.

Getting old doesn't "Suck" It's all in how you look at it!

Too bad you're not old enough to know that getting old doesn't suck. I wouldn't trade places with you for the world. And, since I'm your dad, I can say - proudly, I might add - that I have already raised my children and am pleased with how they turned out in spite of me and my shortcomings as a parent. As far as blowing out a knee, not yet, but my back gives me problems.

In 5 more years you will be the age I was when I became a grandfather. I didn't feel old then and I don't feel old now at 62 - how many my age do you see going down the waterslides with their grandchildren and teaching them to body surf? Stop exercising so much and enjoy your children. After all, my grandfathers lived to just short of their 90th birthdays and all I remember them doing was sitting around smoking cigars, smoking pipes, chewing tobacco and telling stories. Further, I have personally known some men in the 40's to drop dead while jogging.

It's all that exercise that's making you old.

Love,

Dad
